Substrate condition
Substrates should be structurally sound, clean, dry and free of dust, paint, oils, curing compounds or other materials that may impair bond performance.
Installation planning
Sunbrick supplies the veneer; the project team and qualified installer are responsible for the wall assembly, substrate, setting materials, moisture management and applicable codes.

Installation documentation
These notes summarize the project conditions that should be reviewed before ordering or installing Sunbrick thin brick veneer. Final installation design remains the responsibility of the project team, installer and applicable local code authority.
Substrates should be structurally sound, clean, dry and free of dust, paint, oils, curing compounds or other materials that may impair bond performance.
Surface variation should not exceed 1/4 in. in 10 ft. Wood or steel stud framing systems should be limited to L/360 deflection.
Exterior applications over wood or steel stud framing should include two WRB layers, or one WRB layer with a drainage mat, plus corrosion-resistant flashing and drainage at required transitions.
Use ASTM C270 Type S mortar, polymer-modified mortar, ANSI A118.4 modified thin-set mortar or a manufacturer-approved masonry adhesive.
Each unit should receive full mortar or adhesive coverage on the back and be pressed firmly into place to achieve complete contact.
Movement joints should extend through the veneer system, align with substrate joints, be spaced no more than 18 ft apart and enclose no more than 144 sq ft.
System details
These diagrams illustrate common Sunbrick thin brick veneer installation assemblies. Final design should comply with project specifications, local code requirements and manufacturer-approved materials.

Technical documentation
Calculate net wall area, subtract major openings when appropriate and add material for cuts, layout changes and installer recommendations.
The installer should verify substrate condition, bonding materials, joint treatment, movement accommodation, moisture management and exterior exposure.
Exterior suitability depends on climate and assembly design. Freeze-thaw exposure should be reviewed against the current product data, wall assembly and project requirements.
